Graduated cum laude in Medicine in Roma (Italy) in 1973, he started his academic career, in the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of the same University. Four years later he moved to the University of L’Aquila (Italy). In 1985 he became Chairman of the Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Department. In that University he has started and directed all the Academic Anesthesia and Pain Medicine programs, including the residency programs. At the moment, he is President of the Fondazione Paolo Procacci (www.fondazioneprocacci.org). NGO based in Roma and involved in research and education on Pain Medicine.
